Egyptian president’s son is Saudi-based urologist

Al-Hasa, Asharq Al-Awsat – Suddenly, a Saudi hospital in al-Hasa governorate has found itself in the spotlight of both the local, regional and even international media.

The Al-Mana General Hospital in al-Hasa governorate in eastern Saudi Arabia has found itself being besieged by dozens of reporters and journalists representing media outlets from across the world. The media has descended upon the hospital in order to meet with hospital resident Dr. Ahmed Mursi, the son of newly-elected Egyptian president Dr. Mohamed Mursi.

The Al-Mana General Hospital has found itself at the center of attention following the announcement of the Egyptian presidential election results, after social networking websites, particularly twitter, revealed that one of the new Egyptian president’s sons is based at the Saudi hospital.

Speaking exclusively to Asharq Al-Awsat, Dr. Ahmed Mursi expressed his huge satisfaction at his father’s victory at the Egyptian presidential elections, adding that president-elect Mursi now “shoulders a huge burden in his new post.” Ahmed Mursi also revealed that he had prayed to God Almighty to help his father serve his religion, country and people as the newly-elected president of Egypt.

Dr. Ahmed Mursi, a resident at the Urology and General Surgery department of Al-Mana General Hospital received the congratulation and well-wishes of his colleagues and Egyptian expatriates in al-Hasa and the surrounding area upon his father’s election. The Al-Mana General Hospital administration also expressed its congratulation to the young Dr. Mursi, and has promised to hold a special celebration for him to celebrate his father’s election.

Dr. Ahmed Mursi has been employed by the Urology and General Surgery department of Al-Mana General Hospital for the past three years, and he told reporters that he has no intention to leave his employment upon his father’s ascension to the Egyptian presidential palace.

The Al-Mana General Hospital administration expressed its pride that the son of an Arab president is working on its medical staff. Hospital administrator Dr. Jamal al-Mana expressed his hope that Dr. Mursi would remain on staff for the forthcoming period, whilst also congratulating him on his father’s achievement. Dr. al-Mana also revealed that the hospital administration had planned a celebration of Dr. Mohamed Mursi’s election.

For his part, Al-Mana General Hospital director, Dr. Ali al-Kharas praised Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Mursi, describing him as a model employee regarding his professionalism and commitment, adding that he is one of the first to arrive in the morning and the last to leave at night.

Dr. Ahmed Mursi is one of newly elected Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi’s five children. He reportedly has three brothers and one sister. Dr. Ahmed Mursi appeared hesitant and uncertain in his dealings with the media; however with his father’s election he must get used to the fact that he no longer is an ordinary Egyptian citizen but a member of the Egyptian First Family.
