A kidnapped Saudi businessman has been released with the help of Egyptian security forces after a nine-day ordeal, the Saudi ambassador to Cairo said Thursday.
Hassan Ali Ahmed al-Sanad, 70, was kidnapped in Egypt by masked assailants on April 26 on the Cairo-Ismailia Desert Road.
According to the preliminary investigation received by Asharq Al-Awsat last week, al-Sanad is an investor working in Egypt who owns farms and juice companies.
He was in Cairo to participate in meetings for the board of directors of the firms and was bundled into a car and whisked away by the kidnappers while on his way to Cairo International Airport.
The Security Director of Ismailia Major General Ali Azzazi had also told Asharq Al-Awsat that investigators had found the businessman’s car which had been smashed and its doors were left open.
