Former French Minister: Iran, Russia Should Control Their Strategies in the Region

EU Parliamentarian and former French Justice Minister Rachida Dati

Riyadh – EU Parliamentarian and former French Justice Minister Rachida Dati called on the international community to take a firmer stance towards the necessity to put an end to death and destruction in Syria.

She also stressed that Russia and Iran should control their behavior and take constructive measures in the region, noting that the European Union will not support those countries should they continue to follow destructive policies.

Dati also said that the international community was aware of the importance of Saudi Arabia’s role in fighting terrorism.

“The international community should acknowledge efforts deployed by [Saudi Arabia] in fighting terrorism, and its strategies that reflect positively on world peace and security,” she stated.

Dati said that during her last visit to Riyadh in October, she discussed with Saudi officials current efforts in fighting terrorism. She added that the European Union could benefit from Saudi experience in this regard.

“The European Union has faith in its partnership with Saudi Arabia,” Dati said, adding: “Continuous dialogue should be maintained with Saudi Arabia and other major powers in order to resolve the weak international cooperation in this regard”.

Commenting on Iran’s interference in the Syrian war, the EU parliamentarian said: “We must work to end the war that has lasted more than 5 years and led to the death of more than 300 thousand people.”

“We should value France’s stance in this regard and its calls on the United Nations Security Council to do everything possible to preserve the lives of the Syrian people,” she added.

As for the situation in Yemen, the former French Justice Minister said that it was shameful to watch the Yemeni people suffer from war and hunger, without attempting to resolve the deteriorating situation in the war-torn country.

She added that such a conflict could not be resolved but through the interference of major regional powers.
