Security services in Egypt and Saudi Arabia succeeded in arresting a criminal network that tried to smuggle millions of narcotic pills from Egypt to Saudi Arabia.

The Interior Ministry’s security spokesman Major General Mansour Al-Turki said in a statement yesterday that “as a result of coordination and cooperation between the kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s competent security authorities and their counterparts in sisterly and friendly countries that aim to fight against criminal activities targeting the kingdom with drugs, and based on the availability of shared information with the competent authority in the Arab Republic of Egypt regarding an attempt to smuggle a huge amount of amphetamine pills and other banned pills into Saudi territories, the Egyptian authorities have managed to seize these drugs before they were smuggled into the kingdom.

He added that 7.3 million amphetamine narcotic pills (Captagon) and 432,000 prescription pills were seized and that five smugglers involved in the smuggling attempt had been arrested.
