Germany Deports 3 Tunisians, Including Terror Suspect

Tunis- Three Tunisians, who have been deported from Germany, were taken into custody by Tunisian authorities as part of a migrant deal reached between the two countries, Tunisian prosecution spokesman Sofiene Sliti said.

Sliti said Friday the Tunisian authorities will question the three men, one of whom is suspected of having links to a terrorist organization.

“There was no evidence of the involvement of the two other suspects in terrorist activities except that they were living in Germany illegally,” he added.

German news agency dpa quoted officials as saying on Wednesday that the Saxony state government has deported 22 failed asylum seekers to Tunisia, one of whom is suspected of membership in ISIS.

The Interior Ministry of Saxony, the eastern state which conducted the deportations, said that eight of the 22 deportees had been in police custody before boarding a flight from Dresden to Tunisia.

A government source told dpa that one of the people deported on Wednesday is a 24-year-old man suspected of ISIS membership.

The deportations come as part of an agreement reached between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi during her visit to Tunis earlier this month.

Under the deal, Tunisia agreed to take back 1,500 rejected Tunisian migrants from Germany.
