Saudi Arabia Sanctions Hezbollah Leader, Freezes Assets under its Jurisdiction

The Saudi government today imposed sanctions on and labeled as terrorist the Hezbollah Leader Hashem Safieddine , who is held responsible for committing operations for the terror group Hezbollah in the Middle East, such as providing intelligence and the green light for launching terrorist attacks, and supporting Syrian dictator Bashar Al Assad’s regime.

Safieddine was born in 1964 in Tyre area in southern Lebanon.

The Saudi government will continue to combat Hezbollah’s terrorist activities with all available legal tools and will continue to work with partners around the world to make it clear that Hezbollah’s militant and extremist activities should not be tolerated by any nation, reported the Saudi official state-owned news agency SPA.

As long as Hezbollah spreads instability, conducts terrorist attacks and engages in criminal and illicit activities around the world, the Saudi government vows to continue sanctioning and taking legal action against Hezbollah’s operatives, leaders and businesses, and disrupt its radical activities.

The name sanctioned today was officially designated a terrorist under the Saudi Law of Terrorism Crimes and Financing and the Royal Decree A/44, which outlaws and condemns terrorists and their supporters for acting for or on behalf.

Any assets held in Safieddine’s name and are under Saudi jurisdiction are frozen, and Saudi citizens and residents in the Kingdom are prohibited from engaging in any transactions with designated terrorists.

Safieddine is president of Hezbollah’s executive council, which oversees the group’s social and economic activities. Hezbollah is regarded by Washington as a terrorist organization.

The United States Treasury Department also added Safieddine to its counter-terrorism blacklist on Friday.
