Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki announced on Tuesday that Palestine decided to give up its right to chair the presidency of the Arab League in its current session.

"The State of Palestine is a member of the Arab League and has always worked to enhance its role and position," al-Maliki told a news conference in Ramallah, according to WAFA news agency.

However, he said his country will not give up its seat in the league.

"Because that will create a vacuum which can generate different scenarios we don't want at this sensitive time," he noted.
