Bahrain has expelled the Lebanese ambassador in wake of the series of harmful statements issued by Lebanese officials in recent months.

The Foreign Ministry said on Friday that the envoy has 48 hours to leave the kingdom.

It stressed that the move does not affect Lebanese expatriates in Bahrain.

Saudi Arabia had on Friday ordered the Lebanese ambassador to the Kingdom to leave the country within 48 hours and stopped all imports from Lebanon, a response to offensive comments made by Lebanese Information Minister George Kordahi before he came to office.
