Egypt denied rumors on Sunday claiming a shortage of medical supplies in governmental hospitals amid a second wave of the coronavirus.

The Egyptian cabinet’s media center assured in an official statement that there is a sufficient strategic stock of medical supplies in government hospitals to face any increase in coronavirus infections.

According to the statement, the cabinet said it was responding to reports by some news websites and social media pages about those claims.

Also, the health ministry confirmed its continuous follow-up and monitoring of the availability of sufficient medical supplies on daily basis.

The ministry announced the establishments of a central crisis room to follow up the situation in the hospitals and provide medical teams with clinical support through consultations in dealing with infected cases and treatment protocols – as well as following up on the implementation of infection control protocols.

The cabinet appealed to all media outlets and social media users to critically analyze the information they share and not spread false information.

Health and Population Minister Hala Zayed last week ordered health directorates across the country increase isolation hospitals to receive any suspected coronavirus cases.
