London- While the Iranian committee monitoring the nuclear deal had made necessary decisions on 16 important points in response to US sanctions, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani announced that his country has lodged a complaint with the joint commission supervising implementation of Iran’s nuclear deal with six world powers over the new sanctions imposed by the United States on Tehran.
“With regard to the imposition of new sanctions by the US, in addition to diplomatic measures, which should be taken, a complaint had to be filed with the relevant commission (the Iran-P5+1 Joint Commission) and this has been done,” Larijani told reporters on Tuesday.
Iran’s JCPOA supervisory body assessed the new US sanctions and decided that they contradict parts of the nuclear deal,” Larijani was quoted as saying by the Tasnim news agency.
The announcement came hours after the Iranian body overseeing the implementation of the nuclear deal discussed the sanctions against Iran, Russia and North Korea, days after being passed by the US Congress, and the law is expected to be signed by US President Donald Trump to come into force.
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif slammed recent US sanctions against Iran and said Tehran is raising the issue of Washington’s breaches of the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), to international circles.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in the Turkish city of Istanbul on Tuesday, Zarif said that the US moves to renege on the deal and its hostilities toward Iran were discussed in a recent meeting of the JCPOA joint commission, an international group tasked with monitoring commitments to the nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers.
He said the Islamic Republic, on the one hand, is taking legal measures against US breaches of the JCPOA and, on the other hand, is pursuing the issue in international circles, including the JCPOA joint commission.
Accordingly, the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) have started to take measures to counteract US hostilities, Zarif noted.
