Palestinian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Bassem al-Agha praised the monthly financial support offered by Saudi Arabia to Palestine in an effort to tackle the humanitarian situation in Gaza and its surrounding areas.

In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, the ambassador said the support will go to the Palestinian Authority budget that will back Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem.

He also hailed the Kingdom’s position, adding that it will likely take more steps in the future as the Palestinians have grown accustomed to the support accorded to them by Saudi Arabia.

This support dates back to the founder King Abdulaziz and to the present under the reign of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Agha added.

Moreover, he noted the formation of the international coalition to implement the two-state solution, which was launched by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah in New York on Thursday.

The coalition is a result of Saudi efforts to garner international support for the establishment of a Palestinian state, stressed the ambassador.

Saudi Ambassador to Jordan and Non-resident Ambassador to Palestine Naif Al-Sudairi handed the financial aid on Sunday to Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

Saudi Arabia had made the announcement about the monthly financial support the same day, saying it was a continuation of the backing offered by King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed to the Palestinian people.

Mustafa praised the Kingdom, stressing that the latest assistance underscores the intense efforts carried out by King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed with the international community to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, protect civilians and ensure the delivery of more humanitarian aid.

He also noted the Kingdom’s keenness on reaching a fair and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that allows the Palestinian people to obtain all of their legitimate rights and establish her own independent state with east Jerusalem as its capital.

The Palestinian cause remains a central priority to Saudi Arabia, he stated.
