The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General, Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, strongly condemned on Friday the decision by Israeli occupation forces to confiscate the land on which the UNRWA headquarters is located in occupied Jerusalem.
He considered the decision a serious violation of international conventions and United Nations resolutions, threatening to undermine the agency's efforts to provide essential services to Palestinian refugees, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Albudaiwi emphasized the GCC's support for UNRWA's vital role in providing humanitarian assistance to Palestinian refugees.
He called on the international community to take responsibility in compelling the Israeli occupation forces to reverse this decision, thereby enabling the agency to effectively perform its duties.
He also called for ensuring the protection of UNRWA facilities and staff, as well as halting all attacks and illegal practices carried out by the occupation forces against the agency.
Israel has confiscated land on which the UNRWA headquarters is located in East Jerusalem, with plans to build 1,440 settlement units on the site.
