The Saudi-led Arab coalition announced on Saturday that a Saudi officer and another non-commissioned officer were killed in a “treacherous cowardly” attack in Yemen’s Seyiun city on Friday. Another officer was also wounded.

The attack was carried out by a member affiliated with the Yemeni Ministry of Defense at the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen Forces’ camp in Seiyun. It took place as the forces were doing their workout, said coalition spokesman Brig-Gen. Turki al-Malki in a statement.

The coalition forces are providing support and training to the First Military Region forces to counter terrorism and combat smuggling in the city.

The coalition plays a pivotal role in supporting humanitarian and developmental action in Yemen.

“The Joint Forces Command underscored that this Lone Wolf cowardly attack does not represent the honorable members of the Yemeni Ministry of Defense, who, on numerous occasions, expressed their appreciation to the pivotal and positive roles carried out by the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen’s Forces and their support to humanitarian action that contributes to alleviating the suffering of the brotherly people of Yemen,” said the coalition statement.

“The two martyrs and the injured have been repatriated to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

“The Joint Forces Command is working with the Yemeni Ministry of Defense to follow up on the investigation to apprehend the perpetrator and present him to justice, as well as identify the reasons and motives behind this treacherous attack,” it added.

Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi condemned the “terrorist attack”, ordering an investigation in cooperation with the coalition forces.

“The cowardly attack does not represent the honorable members of the Yemeni Armed Forces, who appreciate the great role played by their brothers in the Arab coalition and their sacrifices alongside the Yemeni people,” he added in a statement.

Saudi Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening security coordination and cooperation among Gulf nations.
Speaking at the 41st GCC interior ministers’ meeting in Qatar on Wednesday, he emphasized the importance of protecting the region’s prosperity and ensuring a brighter future.

The minister called for stronger collaboration, better strategies, and capacity-building to tackle these threats.
He also said that the GCC interior ministers’ meeting strengthens joint security efforts to tackle new challenges, supporting regional stability and development.
In a post on X, Prince Abdulaziz affirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to boosting communication, coordination, and integration among Gulf nations, particularly in security, to protect progress and ensure a brighter future.
