A number of Houthi militants were killed on Friday in failed landmine planting on the Kilo 16 highway, east of Hodeidah, military sources reported.
“A number of Houthi militants were killed and others injured while trying to plant a landmine near a training camp in Hodeidah,” the sources said, adding that Houthis moved those injured to a hospital in Hodeidah.
The event was shrouded in secrecy as Houthis cordoned off the explosion area and will not allow anyone on site.
More so, as Houthis continue to plant landmines throughout infrastructure, farms and civilian neighborhoods in governorates east of Hodeidah, a Yemeni child was killed in a landmine explosion at a farm in Nihm district, east of Sanaa.
The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) project to clear mines in Yemen MASAM, reported the 11-year-old’s death on Saturday, saying that the child was killed by a landmine left behind by Houthis after losing the battle in the district in 2016.
At least 20 have been killed and 11 injured by Houthi landmines in Nihm district, where MASAM estimates that there are over 70,000 landmines planted arbitrarily.
Back in Hodeidah, 14-year-old Ahmed Suleiman Ahmed was wounded in an attack launched by Houthis against farmlands in At Tuhayta District. His hand and leg were wounded while trying to harvest crops at his family’s farm.
Ahmed was transported to a field hospital in the neighboring Khokha district, where he is receiving treatment, local sources reported.
Adding more to Houthi crimes, another landmine planted by the group had exploded in a civilian house in the Monzer neighborhood south of Hodeidah city.
Two Yemenis were wounded and moved to a hospital in Ad Durayhimi District for treatment.
