Six family members suffered from food poisoning on Sunday after eating shawarma meals from a restaurant in Jordan’s northeastern Mafraq Governorate.
The Jordanian News Agency (Petra) quoted Governor Yasser Al-Adwan as saying that the sick were transferred to Mafraq Government Hospital for treatment.
The restaurant was closed as a precaution, he pointed out.
Late last month, the Jordanian Ministry of Health said that a five-year-old child died and around 700 people were hospitalized with a mass food poisoning after eating shawarma at a restaurant in Balqa Governorate, northwest of the capital, Amman.
Jordanian Minister of Health Dr. Saad Jaber revealed that the source of poisoning in a group of restaurants is the imported meat which is delivered with the meals. A total of 20 facilities were shut down in Salt, Sweileh and Ain Al-Basha Brigade, in addition to one restaurant in Amman, as a precaution, he noted, until the results of laboratory tests are issued.
Jaber called on the public prosecutor to take all legal measures and hold accountable those responsible for the poisoning.
