Egyptian authorities confirmed on Thursday that locally-produced Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine will be available at inoculation centers throughout the country in September.
The Ministry of Health revealed that up to 14 million doses of the vaccine will be produced.
Egypt reported 123 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday bringing the total to 285,700 since the outbreak began in February 2020. The ministry also reported eight new deaths, bringing the total to 16,638.
The total number of recoveries reached 234,878, the statement added.
It further affirmed that Egypt has so far received more than 21 million doses of the Sputnik V, Sinopharm, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Sinovac vaccines.
Health Ministry spokesperson, Khaled Megahed said the local production of the Vacsera-Sinovac vaccine will begin at the end of next week. Some 5 million doses will be available in early September.
Egypt has the resources to produce 14 million doses of the inoculation, he revealed. The country hopes to produce 80 million jabs by the end of the year.
Authorities are hoping to vaccinate 400,000 to 800,000 per day.
