Bahrain's Cabinet said the Gulf country aims to reach net zero carbon emissions in 2060, to help tackle climate change and protect the environment.
The announcement came a day after Saudi Arabia said it planned to reach net zero by the same date.
The COP26 climate summit, scheduled for October 31-November 12, is seen as a decisive step to determine the targets of global emissions to slowdown the global warming.
The kingdom will adopt a circular carbon economy strengthened by various offsetting schemes including carbon-capture technology and afforestation, said a government statement.
In 1932, Bahrain became the first Gulf state to produce petrol. The kingdom is not a member of oil cartel OPEC.
It produces around 200,000 barrels per day, accounting for some 80 percent of state revenues.
In April 2008, it announced it had discovered 80 billion barrels of shale oil.
Saudi Arabia announced on Saturday its “target to reach net zero emissions by 2060”.
Several countries made similar pledges as the date of the COP26 climate summit approaches.
