A charity auction of special mobile phone numbers and license plates was held in Dubai and raised 53 million Dirhams (14.4 million dollars) in two hours.
The proceeds went to the 1 Billion Meals initiative, which is part of the UAE’s drive to feed the poor and needy in 50 countries; 391 million Dirhams have been raised so far.
The Most Noble Number charity auction was held on Saturday. A special plate number AA8 was sold for 35 million Dirhams, becoming the third most expensive one in the world, while Etisalat’s Diamond+ mobile number 054-9999999 was sold for a whopping 5 million Dirhams.
Many businessmen and philanthropists joined the bidding at the Noble Number charity auction in Dubai to support the 1 Billion Meals initiative, which is aimed at strengthening partnership, solidarity and cooperation in facing the challenge of global hunger, which threatens the lives of 800 million people in the world today.
New charitable auctions to support the 1 Billion Meals initiative will be held. The Abu Dhabi Police will sell a further 555 license plates in an online auction that will be held in the near future.
The 1 Billion Meals initiative was launched by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) in cooperation with the World Food Program, the Food Banking Regional Network, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment, the UAE Food Bank, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and several local charitable and humanitarian associations and organizations in the 50 countries concerned.
