Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf condemned on Sunday Israel for allowing extremists and members of the Israeli Knesset to storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of the Israeli police.

He warned that the development could lead to a security flareup, especially in wake of nationalists holding a provocative march in occupied Jerusalem.

He slammed the rally, which he said was a flagrant violation and dangerous escalation.

Al-Hajraf underscored the importance of Israel respecting the historical, legal and religious status of Jerusalem.

He called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility to preserve the safety of Al-Aqsa mosque and respecting its commitments.
