Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Development Co. Announces 120 Scholarships

Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Development Co. has announced 120 scholarships for undergraduate students, for the academic year 2019-2020.

This comes as part of the “Red Sea Development Scholarship Program” held in collaboration with Prince Mugrin bin Abdul Aziz University and the École Hôtelière de Lausanne, one of the oldest hospitality faculties in the world.

Thursday, Sept. 5, will be the last day for submitting applications, and students wishing to join the program will be able to register on the company’s website.

The program covers a number of majors required for the launch of the Red Sea Project’s first phase at the end of 2022 and for the completion of the entire development project in 2030.

Extending over four years (and one additional preparative year), the program offers an integral curriculum about the hospitality industry, management theories, and applied business projects, in accordance with Swiss and international standards in the hospitality and tourism fields.

Students will have the opportunity to undergo field training for two semesters and go through a practical project during the last semester. This will enhance their qualifications in jobs related to what they have studied.

Voicing great enthusiasm towards the initiative, Ahmed Ghazi Darwish, CEO of Red Sea Development Co. added that the company aspires to be part of the Kingdom’s rapid development in the education sector, by contributing to the creation of jobs and career opportunities in line with the Kingdom’s tourism plans.

Darwish said that the program was a sustainable and optimal investment, and an active contribution by the company to the development of the hospitality and tourism sector in the Kingdom.

“Prince Mugrin bin Abdul Aziz University seeks to contribute to the development of Saudi human capital by offering quality programs that would lead to the recruitment of citizens in accordance with international standards, in order to meet the needs of major developmental projects, like the cooperation agreement with the Red Sea Development Co.,” acting director of Prince Mugrin bin Abdul Aziz University Dr. Nabil Al-Rajeh said.

Kuwait's foreign ministry issued on Sunday a circular indicating that it had listed eight hospitals in Lebanon as part of regulations related to "combating terrorism.”

Lebanon's health ministry expressed surprise and said it would seek clarification.

It said it received the Kuwaiti statement "with great surprise", adding it had not been provided with "any information or notification from any Kuwaiti entity about this matter.”

"The hospitals mentioned in the statement are registered with the syndicate of private hospitals in Lebanon and carry out their role in providing treatment and health services to all Lebanese without exception," the ministry statement said.

It called the facilities "an essential part of the Lebanese health system,” and said it would contact the relevant authorities to request clarification and "protect Lebanon's health system.”

It noted that "Kuwait has numerous joint projects with the ministry... and has been among the most prominent countries that have stood by the health system during the successive crises that Lebanon has faced.”

The latest move was "unprecedented and inconsistent" with the Gulf country's usual approach, it added.
