Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi said the GCC looks forward to strengthening its dialogue with the international community to achieve global security and stability, and work to resolve all conflicts through peaceful means, based on the rules of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

Albudaiwi participated in the meeting of the North Atlantic Council of NATO and representatives of the partners in the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI), headed by Deputy Secretary General of NATO Mircea Joanna.

Held in Brussels on Wednesday, the meeting also witnessed the participation of the ambassadors of NATO countries and the ambassadors of Finland, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait via audiovisual communication.

Albudaiwi indicated that the potential cooperation between the GCC General Secretariat and NATO, which is considered the largest military alliance in the world, is of paramount importance, especially with the existence of opportunities to effectively engage in constructive strategic partnerships and dialogues with its members.

Albudaiwi praised the robust and productive collaboration between Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates on one hand, and NATO, on the other, under the umbrella of the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative and through NATO-ICI Regional Center, which will celebrate its seventh anniversary next January.

Albudaiwi cited the encouraging statements of NATO Secretary Jens Stoltenberg during his visit to the region on many occasions, especially during his trip to Kuwait, where he asserted that “the security of the Gulf is the security of the Alliance.”

He also stated that the NATO-ICI Regional Center has played a pivotal role in strengthening the collective understanding of NATO's role and the significance of cooperation with the organization within the region, clarifying that it has been instrumental in enhancing the individual capabilities of its ICI members, as well as Saudi Arabia and Oman.

During his speech, the GCC Secretary General also reviewed the positions of the GCC countries on regional and international issues, stressing their role in achieving global security and prosperity, which is based on development and stability.

He indicated that the Gulf Cooperation Council has now become a strong voice on the global scene, enabling it to contribute in resolving some regional and international conflicts, through its strong partnerships with all key players in the world.

Albudaiwi expressed the aspiration of the GCC General Secretariat to extend a welcoming hand for cooperation with NATO across a broad spectrum of shared interests that serve the cause of regional and global peace and stability.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirmed that supporting stability in Sudan, securing a ceasefire, and preserving the country's territorial integrity and state institutions remain its top priorities. It emphasized that resolving the crisis ultimately requires a Sudanese-led political solution, the Saudi Press Agency said on Saturday.

The remarks were made by Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, during a UN Security Council session on Sudan.

Alwasil said that the continued conflict, deteriorating security situation, and failure to implement the commitments made under the Jeddah Platform and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions have contributed to worsening the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.

He stressed Saudi Arabia's commitment to ending the conflict, bringing the Sudanese parties closer together, and resuming political dialogue based on the Jeddah Declaration.

The Saudi permanent representative to the United Nations also condemned the targeting of humanitarian aid convoys and the crimes committed in the city of El-Fasher, expressing the Kingdom's concern over the human and humanitarian losses resulting from the continued conflict.

He reiterated the Kingdom's rejection of any measures that undermine Sudan's unity or its institutions, welcomed regional and international efforts aimed at reaching a permanent ceasefire, and affirmed Saudi Arabia's continued humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people.

Saudi Arabia stressed that the region is undergoing a profound strategic transformation that requires new approaches to security and stability, emphasizing that the Palestinian cause remains central to any serious vision for regional security.

The remarks came during the Gulf-Mediterranean Summit, titled Strategic Dialogue for Stability and Economic Cooperation, held in the Italian capital, Rome, with the participation of officials, diplomats, and experts from the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Middle East, and Europe.

Representing the Kingdom, Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Manal Radwan said the region's strategic restructuring requires comprehensive frameworks for dialogue, cooperation, and collective security rather than policies based on hegemony or military force alone.

Radwan warned that the continued humanitarian deterioration in the Gaza Strip, the expansion of Israeli settlements and annexation efforts in the West Bank, and the erosion of final status issues, foremost among them Jerusalem, undermine prospects for both regional and international stability.

She stressed that the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state, must form the foundation of any future political process. She added that ending the occupation and holding Israel accountable for its violations are essential prerequisites for achieving a just peace and sustainable regional security.

Radwan also underscored the importance of respecting state sovereignty, refraining from interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and ending attempts to weaken or undermine state institutions. She further highlighted the need to safeguard freedom of navigation, the security of maritime routes, and global supply chains.

The Saudi official also called for strengthening the Gulf-European partnership to address shared challenges in energy, the digital economy, and strategic infrastructure.

Concluding her participation, Radwan said that meaningful progress requires coordinated collective action and a cohesive regional and international partnership capable of addressing the root causes of crises while advancing security, stability, and development across the region.
