Saudi Arabia welcomed on Friday Armenia’s decision to recognize the state of Palestine.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said the move is a “significant step towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 border with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

It reiterated its call on the international community, especially permanent members of the United Nations Security Council who have yet to recognize the state of Palestine, to do so because it will support the two-state solution and bolster pillars of international security and peace.

Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi praised Armenia’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to obtain all of their rights and to live in peace and independence.

He called on all countries to follow its example.

He underscored the GCC countries’ firm stance in supporting the Palestinian cause and a solution that would end the Israeli occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 border with East Jerusalem as its capital.
