The famous Egyptian billionaire and businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed passed away on Friday in London at 94 after a busy career in finance and business.
According to Forbes magazine, Fayed was among the list of the most famous economists in the world, with a fortune estimated at $2 billion.
The funeral took place after Friday prayers from the Regent's Park Mosque in London, surrounded by his family and members of the Arab and Egyptian communities.
Fayed was born in Alexandria in the Ras El-Tin area on January 27, 1929, to a father who worked in teaching. He moved to the UK in the mid-seventies of the last century, where he amassed a considerable fortune.
He owned the famous Harrods department store in London before selling it in 2010. He also owned the Ritz Paris hotel, which reopened in 2016, and the English football club Fulham before selling it in 2013.
According to Egyptian media, Fayed was recently living in Switzerland.
