The Israeli army said Thursday it targeted Hussein Sharif, an arms dealer and supplier, in a strike on the eastern Lebanese city of Baalbek a day earlier.

The strike has killed at least two people, Lebanon’s health ministry said.

The official National News Agency reported Wednesday that the strike was carried out by an Israeli drone.

The Israeli army said that Sharif “operated from Lebanon to direct cells inside Syria that planned to carry out plots against Israel."

Israel frequently attacks Lebanon, saying it is targeting Hezbollah, despite a ceasefire that brought its most recent war with the group to a halt in November.
