The United Arab Emirates government has approved a federal budget for 2024-2026 worth 192 billion dirhams ($52.3 billion), the prime minister and Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said on Monday.
The UAE is a federation of seven emirates, and while individual emirates such as Abu Dhabi and Dubai set their own budgets, there has been increasing focus on federal financing in recent years.
The budget estimates expenditures of 64.06 billion dirhams in 2024, up 1.6% from estimates for 2023, and revenues of 65.73 billion dirhams next year, an increase of 3.3% from this year, a statement carried by state news agency WAM said.
Social development and benefits account for 42% of the federal budget in 2024, followed by government affairs at 39%, the statement said.
Sheikh Mohammed also said the UAE cabinet had issued a decree to appoint members of the board of the Financial Stability Council, established earlier this year to monitor risks, and deal with financial crises.
The board of directors will be headed by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, vice president of the UAE and brother of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.
