Al-Alimi, Al-Jaber Discuss Saudi Mediation to Extend Yemen Truce

Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi held talks in Aden on Tuesday with Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed al-Jaber.

Their discussions focused on the Kingdom’s efforts to renew the truce in Yemen, ease the suffering of its people and reach a ceasefire with the aim of coming up with a comprehensive UN-mediated political solution to the conflict.

Al-Jaber conveyed to al-Alimi the greetings of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The officials tackled developments in Yemen and the economic reforms carried out by the PLC and government with the support of the Saudi-led Arab coalition.

Al-Alimi praised the Saudi efforts to extend the truce as part of its initiative to achieve peace in Yemen and meet the aspirations of the people in ending the coup by the Iran-backed Houthi militias.

He also hailed the Kingdom’s humanitarian support to Yemen through its various initiative that are being carried out by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, welcomed on Tuesday US President Donald Trump in Riyadh as he embarked on his first official visit abroad since his reelection. 

The visit aims to deepen the strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia.   

Trump is also set to visit the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.   

The Saudi government, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, welcomed the visit on Monday, hoping it would bolster cooperation and the partnership between the Kingdom and the US.   

Prior to his departure, Trump had described his visit to the Gulf as “historic”.   

Saudi Arabia was the destination of Trump's first foreign visit during his first term in office in 2017.
