Saudi Arabia, India Stress Global Energy Supply Security

Saudi Arabia and India have affirmed their commitment to ensuring the security of energy supplies in global markets. They have also agreed on the importance of strengthening their cooperation to guarantee the security and integrity of maritime passages and the freedom of maritime navigation.

A joint statement issued at the conclusion of a visit by Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to India highlighted the significance of cooperation between Riyadh and New Delhi in the energy sector, considering it one of the cornerstones of their strategic partnership.

Additionally, the statement stressed the importance of supporting the stability of global oil markets and promoting dialogue and collaboration among oil-producing and consuming countries, all while ensuring the security of energy supplies in the international markets.

The Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its commitment to being a reliable partner and source of crude oil supplies for India.

As for climate change, both sides emphasized the importance of adhering to the principles of the Climate Change Framework Convention and the Paris Agreement.

They also acknowledged pioneering Saudi efforts in addressing climate change challenges on both regional and international levels, underlining the Kingdom’s Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative.

Saudi Arabia has also promoted the application of a comprehensive and balanced approach to carbon emissions management using various clean technologies. This approach was endorsed by the leaders of the G20 countries and includes measures to mitigate land degradation, restore vegetation cover, and preserve biodiversity.

Saudi Arabia and India are among the world’s major economies that have achieved robust growth.

In this context, India acknowledged the progress made by the Kingdom within the framework of its Vision 2030, including economic diversification and reforms.

It expressed hope for increased participation of Indian companies, professionals, and workers in development projects taking place in the Kingdom.

Saudi officials praised India’s forward-looking Vision 2047, which aligns with its celebration of 100 years of independence, reflecting the aspirations and ambitions of its nation.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to discuss the ties between their countries and regional developments.
According to a statement from al-Sudani’s office, the meeting focused on strengthening Iraq-Saudi relations, especially in political and economic areas. They also discussed activating the Iraqi-Saudi Coordination Council to promote mutual interests.
The statement added that they talked about the situation in Gaza, emphasizing the need for joint Arab and international efforts to stop the violence.
They called on the international community to prevent further suffering of the Palestinian people and support their right to live on their land.
Saudi Arabia’s official news agency, SPA, reported that Prince Faisal conveyed greetings from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, along with their hopes for Iraq’s continued progress.
The meeting also covered ways to enhance bilateral relations and addressed various regional and international issues of mutual interest, SPA added.
Farhad Alaaldin, the Iraqi Prime Minister's Advisor on Arab and International Affairs, told Asharq Al-Awsat that the Saudi Foreign Minister’s visit to Baghdad comes at a crucial time, with rising regional tensions.
Alaaldin highlighted that the visit reflects the strong ties between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, particularly in political, diplomatic, and economic areas, especially in the energy sector.
He noted that both countries have significant influence globally, and their cooperation has proven beneficial for both nations.
He also mentioned that Saudi Arabia values Iraq’s key role in the region and appreciates their united stance on critical issues, particularly the Palestinian cause and the situation in Gaza.
Issam Faily, a political science professor at Al-Mustansiriyah University, also told Asharq Al-Awsat that Saudi Arabia sees Iraq as a strategic partner.
He pointed out that this is Prince Faisal’s third visit to Iraq in less than three years, showing strong coordination between the two countries during these tense times.
Faily added that Saudi Arabia wants Iraq to play a crucial role in regional stability and in strengthening their bilateral relations.
