Saudi Arabia Expresses Solidarity with Libya after Deadly Floods

The Saudi Foreign Ministry expressed solidarity with the brethren people of Libya after the deadly floods in the eastern city of Derna that left hundreds dead and many injured and missing, the Saudi News Agency said on Tuesday.

The Ministry extended condolences to the families of the victims, voicing hopes that all individuals reported missing from the floods get to be found and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

On Tuesday, the Libyan parliament called for an emergency session on Thursday to tackle the aftermath of Storm Daniel that hit the country triggering massive flooding.

The session will be held in the city of Benghazi “in order to take the necessary emergency measures to face the impact of this disaster”, a statement released by the Libyan parliament said.

Libya was hit by floods after the Storm Daniel hit the country destroying buildings in Derna, and hitting other settlements along the coast, including Libya's second biggest city of Benghazi.

More than 1,000 bodies were recovered in Derna, a minister in the eastern administration said on Tuesday. He said the final toll was expected to be very big.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud sent on Friday a cable of congratulations to President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan on the anniversary of his country's Restoration of Independence Day.

King Salman wished the president continued good health and happiness, and the government and people of Azerbaijan further progress and prosperity.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, sent Aliyev a similar cable on the occasion.
