The Kuwaiti government condemned on Monday attempts to stir strife and undermine national unity through social media.
Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Sabah al-Salem chaired the weekly cabinet meeting on Monday. Government spokesman Amer al-Ajami said the cabinet condemned attempts to sow strife through social media.
In a statement, he added that the government underlined its “respect to all segments of society”, rejecting any attempt to stir strife through hatred, discrimination or incitement.
It praised the role played by the Interior Ministry in firmly countering such behavior and holding those involved to account, stressing that no one is above the law.
The general prosecution had announced the arrest of a citizen for violating the law on national unity and insulting tribes on social media.
The Interior Ministry had arrested the Kuwaiti national and he is now awaiting a ruling from the general prosecution.
The Ministry emphasized that it had taken all the “necessary legal measures against anyone who harms national unity though offensive statements against various segments of our society.”
