Aboul Gheit: Arab Summit in Bahrain is Key in Shaping Unified Arab Stance

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, underscored the importance of the upcoming 33rd Arab Summit in Bahrain against the backdrop of pressing challenges facing the Arab region.
These challenges notably include the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and the deteriorating political and humanitarian conditions impacting several regional countries.
In the lead-up to the summit, expected on Thursday, the Speaker of the Council of Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, held preparatory meetings with Secretary-General Aboul Gheit and Assistant Secretary-General Ambassador Hossam Zaki of the Arab League.
Aboul Gheit highlighted the pivotal role of the Arab Summit in Bahrain in shaping a cohesive Arab stance. He also acknowledged the significant contribution of Arab parliamentary diplomacy to fostering collective Arab efforts.

The Kuwaiti government has issued a decision amending the executive regulations of the Foreigners' Residency Law, providing a 10-year residency permit free of charge to those whose Kuwaiti citizenship was withdrawn and their dependents, who have returned to their original nationality or acquired another nationality.

The official gazette, Kuwait Al-Youm, published the decision on Sunday. It authorizes the Director General of the General Department of Residency Affairs to determine the conditions and regulations governing the granting and renewal of residency permits.

It also allows beneficiaries to work in Kuwait in accordance with regulations set by the department.

The amendment also introduced rules governing the length of time residents may remain outside Kuwait, setting the period at six months while exempting several categories, including children of Kuwaiti women who have not acquired citizenship by dependency, property owners, investors covered by Law No. 116 of 2013, and holders of residency permits.

The General Department of Residency Affairs may grant permission for an absence of more than six months under specific conditions and regulations, provided that the residency remains valid.

The decision also sets the period domestic workers may remain outside Kuwait at four months unless they obtain prior permission for an extended absence.

The amendment is intended to regulate the legal status and residency arrangements of the categories covered by its provisions, establish rules governing the granting and renewal of residency and employment in the country, and regulate the periods residents may remain outside Kuwait.

Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan held separate phone talks on Sunday with his counterparts from Iran and Pakistan during which regional developments were the main focus of their discussions.

With his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, the Saudi minister discussed the efforts to preserve regional security and stability.

In a separate call with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Prince Faisal discussed developments related to the current crisis and efforts to contain it through dialogue and negotiations, in a bid to ease tensions and preserve regional security and stability.

They also discussed the bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
