Saudi FM Mobilizes Int’l Support to Recognize State of Palestine

The Foreign Ministerial Committee of Arabic and Islamic countries for Gaza, led by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, held talks in Madrid on Wednesday with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez international efforts to stop the Israeli war on Gaza and Rafah.

It stressed the importance of reaching an immediate ceasefire and allowing the entry of all humanitarian aid throughout Gaza.

Also present at the meeting were Spanish FM Jose Manuel Albares, Palestinian PM Mohammad Mustafa, Qatar's FM Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Jordan's FM Ayman Safadi, Türkiye’s FM Hakan Fidan and Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hissein Brahim Taha.

The officials discussed the mechanism to address the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and the need for Israel to cease its unilateral illegal practices in the West Bank to pave the way for just comprehensive peace that safeguards the rights of the Palestinian people and achieves security in the region.

The gatherers praised Spain for recognizing the state of Palestine and its constant commitment to offer all forms of support to activate the recognition of the Palestinian state.

They underlined the urgent need to take the necessary steps to implement the two-state solution to establish a Palestinian state according to the 1967 border with East Jerusalem as its capital and in line with the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international resolutions.

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi welcomed on Wednesday the agreement between the legitimate Yemeni government and Iran-backed Houthi militias to de-escalate the situation with regard to the Yemeni banking sector and airlines.

The agreement was announced by the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, on Tuesday.

Albudaiwi expressed the GCC's support for all regional and international efforts and the efforts led by the UN special envoy aimed at achieving peace and security in Yemen.

The announcement underscores the importance the international community attaches to the Yemeni crisis, he added, hoping the agreement will pave the way for Yemeni parties to start the political process, under UN auspices, to reach a comprehensive political solution that achieves security and stability in the country.

He reiterated the GCC's continued support and full solidarity with Yemen, its government and people, and its keenness to encourage all efforts to de-escalate and maintain stability in order to reach peace.
