The Royal Oman Police said on Tuesday that it had completed, in cooperation with the military and security services, “the procedures for dealing with the shooting incident” that occurred on Monday evening, in the Wadi Al Kabir area in Muscat Governorate.

Pakistan has strongly condemned the “terrorist” attack that targeted a mosque in Wadi Al Kabir in the Omani capital, which was frequented by a number of Pakistani residents in the Sultanate to commemorate Ashura Day.

Six persons, including a policeman, were killed following the shooting incident on Monday evening, in addition to three perpetrators, the Royal Oman Police said.

It also reported that 28 individuals of various nationalities were injured, including four from the Royal Oman Police and Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority, who were performing their national duty.

Among the dead were two Pakistani citizens, according to the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Pakistani Embassy in Oman said that it is coordinating closely with the Omani authorities to return their bodies home.

The Omani police neutralized the attackers, but the authorities did not identify the perpetrators of the attack.

A statement by the Pakistani Foreign Ministry and the Pakistani Embassy announced that Pakistan had offered to assist in the investigations and “bring the perpetrators of the incident before justice.”

The Pakistani embassy in Muscat said in a statement on X that the country’s ambassador to Muscat, Imran Ali, visited hospitals to check on the condition of the injured Pakistani citizens.

Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its unwavering support for Afghanistan’s security and stability on Tuesday, calling for respect for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while voicing deep concern over the humanitarian and economic challenges facing the Afghan people.

In an address before the UN General Assembly during a session on the situation in Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, urged the international community to intensify efforts to deliver urgent humanitarian aid, alleviate suffering, and safeguard the rights of women and girls.

“The Kingdom stresses the importance of empowering Afghan women and enhancing their rights to education, work and participation in public life,” Al-Wasil told the gathering, citing the outcomes of the recent “Conference on the Status of Women in Islam,” hosted in Jeddah.

He also highlighted the humanitarian support extended by Saudi Arabia through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, underscoring the Kingdom’s commitment to addressing Afghanistan’s ongoing crises.

Al-Wasil warned against allowing Afghan territory to become a safe haven for terrorism or a hub for narcotics trafficking, which he said would pose a serious threat to regional and global security.

The Saudi envoy reaffirmed Riyadh’s commitment to supporting political, humanitarian and development initiatives aimed at achieving lasting stability in Afghanistan.
