Kuwait on Sunday instituted rolling blackouts in several residential neighborhoods despite high summertime temperatures in the desert emirate.

The state-run KUNA news agency blamed “a fuel supply disruption” for the blackouts, which shut down desalination plants and some power stations.

The forecast high for Kuwait on Sunday was 43 degrees Celsius (109 Fahrenheit). Weather forecasters warned it could feel like 53 degrees Celsius (127 degrees Fahrenheit), with poor air quality as well.

Saudi Arabia has welcomed a decision made by Sudanese Sovereign Council President and Army leader Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan to assign the Humanitarian Aid Commission to open the Adre crossing for delivering humanitarian assistance to the city of Al-Fasher in light of the deteriorating humanitarian situation there.

The Kingdom on Thursday commended the decision as a positive step in addressing humanitarian needs, facilitating the delivery of aid, and ensuring the safety of humanitarian workers.

The Saudi delegation to the Geneva Conference held discussions with the UN secretary-general’s special envoy and the African Union representative to discuss providing emergency assistance through a joint mechanism.
