The Arab League held an emergency meeting Thursday to condemn Israel's incursion into Syria and its threat to regional and international peace.
Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Arab League Ambassador Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Matar attended the meeting, which resulted in a resolution denouncing Israel's incursion into the demilitarized zone with Syria near Mount Hermon and the further occupation of Syrian land in Quneitra and Rif Dimashq Governorates, SPA reported.
The Arab League described it as a violation of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and UN resolutions. The decision also condemned Israeli airstrikes on Syrian civilian and military sites and demanded Israeli compensation for damages.
The League urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for its actions in the occupied Golan Heights, demanding an end to demographic changes and illegal settlements.
The league resolution concluded by requesting that the Arab group at the UN, in coordination with Algeria, convene a special session of the UN Security Council to address the escalating threat to international peace and security.
