Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi stressed on Monday the need to address and bolster stability and security in the region, foremost of which is the dire situation in the Gaza Strip.

He made his remarks as he received in Riyadh a European Parliament delegation from the Committee on Foreign Affairs, headed by David McAllister.

The officials reviewed joint files and the progress of cooperation between the GCC and the European Union (EU), ways to deepen the strategic partnership between them in various fields, and regional and international issues of common interest.

On Gaza, Albudaiwi underlined the need for cooperation and coordination to work towards an immediate ceasefire, as well as to activate all relevant international and UN resolutions that will help in protecting people and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The US State Department has approved the potential sale of CH-47F Chinook Helicopters and F-16 components and sustainment, along with related equipment, to the United Arab Emirates for a total of $1.457 billion, the Pentagon said on Monday.

The principal contractors for the sale of the helicopters are Boeing Helicopter Aircraft Company and Honeywell Engine Company, the Pentagon said in a statement. No contractors are associated with the F-16 sustainment sale, it said.
