The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia concluded its participation in the 68th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), held at the Vienna International Center.
The Kingdom’s delegation included representatives from the Saudi Space Agency (SSA), the Communications, Space and Technology Commission, and the Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office, SPA reported.
The Saudi delegation was headed by Eng. Muryah Alshahrani, who, during the opening session, stressed the Kingdom’s commitment to promoting international cooperation in the space sector. He highlighted the importance of joint action and knowledge exchange to ensure the peaceful, responsible, and sustainable use of outer space in support of comprehensive development and the future of humanity.
As part of the participation, SSA organized a side event and workshop titled “Toward a Cleaner Orbit: Advancing Global Cooperation on Space Debris”, where it showcased the Kingdom’s efforts to protect the orbital environment from space debris and announced the upcoming Space Debris Conference 2026. It also presented several awareness initiatives aimed at boosting public understanding of space and sustainability issues.
The Saudi delegation held a series of bilateral meetings with representatives of space agencies and member states to explore opportunities for cooperation and shared interests, contributing to the expansion of international partnerships and enhancing Saudi presence in the sector.
This participation reflects the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to boost its role as an active player in shaping the future of the space sector and upholding the principles of peaceful use and sustainable development in line with the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030.
