Lebanon’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif al-Derian and Saudi Ambassador to Beirut Waleed Bukhari stressed on Monday the need to support the Lebanese army and security forces in imposing state authority throughout the country.
Derian’s press office said the officials discussed Lebanese, Arab and Islamic affairs.
They underlined the importance of Lebanon’s security and stability “because they are indivisible to Arab security.”
They added that security and development cannot be achieved in Lebanon without comprehensive stability and without the rise of state and national institutions that carry out their duties in full.
They underscored their support for the Lebanese army and security forces in their efforts to impose state authority throughout the country, noting the military’s steps in implementing the government’s decision to impose state monopoly over arms.
They encouraged the government to adopt “effective balanced diplomacy to take radical decisions related to financial and administrative reforms”, said the statement.
Derian and Bukhari also tackled the war on Gaza, saying “real peace calls for ensuring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, starting with the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and the full Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories.”
