Qatar reiterated before the UN Security Council that ensuring the success of the first phase of the Gaza Strip agreement is a collective responsibility, essential for its implementation, the comprehensive cessation of hostilities, and the achievement of peace and stability in the region, in full compliance with international law.
In a statement delivered at the quarterly open debate on the situation in the Middle East, Qatar highlighted its two years of continued mediation efforts with Egypt and the United States, which recently resulted in an agreement to end the bloodshed. This same mediation has previously succeeded in achieving humanitarian truces for delivering aid and releasing prisoners and detainees, according to SPA.
Doha also welcomed the UN General Assembly's adoption of the New York Declaration on the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, appreciating the leadership roles of Saudi Arabia and France in this regard.
Furthermore, it welcomed the countries that have recognized the State of Palestine and affirmed Palestine's right to full membership in the United Nations.
Qatar emphasized that for the peaceful settlement and the two-state solution to succeed, it is necessary to reject measures that undermine this solution, such as settlement expansion in the West Bank, settler violence, and the seizure of Palestinian land.
It reaffirmed that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the Palestinian territories and of the unified Palestinian state.
Qatar also expressed its strongest condemnation of the Israeli Knesset's approval of two draft laws aimed at imposing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, viewing them as a challenge to international law. It urged the international community, particularly the Security Council, to take urgent action to compel the Israeli occupation authorities to halt their expansionist plans and settlement policies.
