Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud sent on Tuesday a cable of condolences to Sri Lanka’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake over the victims of Cyclone Ditwah that struck his country.
King Salman extended his sincere sympathy to the president, relatives of the deceased, and Sri Lankan people, wishing a safe return of the missing to their families.
Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, sent Dissanayake a similar cable over the tragedy.
Flooding and landslides from the cyclone has left 410 people dead in Sri Lanka.
Dissanayake, speaking in a meeting with government officials, described the disaster as the worst to strike the country in recent history, saying it remains impossible to determine the full scale of casualties. He warned that the death toll is likely far higher than current figures.
He said that government agencies were working to reach isolated communities.
