Arab, Slovenia FMs Discuss Gaza Peace Efforts

The foreign minister of several Arab countries and Slovenia met in Ljubljana on Friday to discuss efforts to boost regional and international security and stability, with focus on the Gaza Strip.

The meeting was attended by Saudi FM Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Egyptian FM Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Bahraini FM Abdullatif Al-Zayani, and Qatari FM Sultan Al Muraikhi and Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon.

The FMs stressed the need to respect and fully implement the Gaza ceasefire agreement. They discussed the need to deliver sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid to the enclave.

They tackled efforts to ensure the success of the peace plan launched by US President Donald Trump, and progress towards the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution.

The ministers discussed the situation in the occupied West Bank, stressing the need to halt illegal unilateral Israeli measures there and Israeli violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem, which are deepening tensions and undermining all de-escalation efforts.

The ministers commended Slovenia's support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and its recognition of the State of Palestine based on the two-state solution.

The talks also addressed developments in the region, ways to reduce tensions through negotiation and dialogue, and efforts to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

Saudi Arabia condemned on Wednesday Iran for attacking a Saudi vessel, SIDR, as it sailed the Hormuz Strait and the resulting loss of life among the crew.

A Foreign Ministry statement said the Kingdom also condemns the Iranian attacks against Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait.

Saudi Arabia “stands by the fraternal states and the measures they take to protect their security and sovereignty against any threat,” it added.

The Kingdom “underscored the need to stop the escalation and respect international marine lanes and their safety, as well as the global energy supplies.”

It urged “good neighborliness and respect for the sovereignty of nations, the UN Charter and international laws and norms.”

The Kingdom “called on all parties to restore calm, end the escalation, respect international law, return to the negotiations and turn to peaceful solutions.”

Saudi Arabia's national shipping company, Bahri, said on Wednesday that two Filipino seafarers were killed in a security incident involving its vessel SIDR as it transited through the Strait of Hormuz on August 31.

The company said in a statement that it continues to maintain constant communication with the vessel and is coordinating with the relevant authorities while monitoring developments in the incident.

Bahri emphasized that the safety of its crew members, protection of the marine environment, and safe management of its vessels remain its top priorities, at a time when shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is experiencing disruptions and escalating security risks.

SIDR was among two tankers involved in separate incidents occurring in close succession as they passed near the Strait of Hormuz, according to maritime sources.

Iranian Drone and Missile Attacks Target Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq

Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain said they intercepted new Iranian attacks overnight, while Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said early on Wednesday that it had launched an attack on US bases in Iraq's Erbil with drones and missiles, according to Iranian state media.

Jordan said it intercepted and destroyed 10 ballistic missiles launched from Iran. Three other missiles fell in remote areas, the official Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported early Wednesday. No casualties were reported.

The Kuwaiti military also said its air defenses intercepted “hostile drone attacks” coming from Iran. It added that the explosions heard across the Gulf state were caused by the interception operations. Bahrain said its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed Iranian drones over the kingdom.

Iran had earlier said it targeted US military bases in Jordan in response to previous US attacks. Iran had already attacked US bases in Jordan.

Iranian media outlets reported attacks on a US base in Bahrain. No official confirmation was made.

On Tuesday, the United States and Iran said they had carried out new attacks against each other. US President Donald Trump said the United States had again targeted Iranian sites near the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement carried by state media, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had launched a “combined missile and drone attack” on US bases in Erbil, destroying a maintenance facility and warehouses containing technical equipment belonging to the US military.

The statement added: “Ground forces fighters also set fire to the base's fuel tanks and killed a number of attackers”.
