Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense spokesperson, Major General Turki al-Malki, announced on Monday the interception of five hostile drones near the Prince Sultan Air Base.
Earlier, he announced that two drones were intercepted and destroyed after attempting to target the Ras Tanura refinery, confirming the attack was successfully thwarted.
Al-Malki added that no civilian casualties were reported as a result of the interception. He noted that a limited fire broke out inside the refinery due to falling debris but was quickly brought under control.
He added that the interception led to debris falling close to civilian facilities and residential areas.
Some operational units at the refinery were shut down as a precautionary measure, without any impact on the supply of petroleum products to local markets, an official source at the Ministry of Energy said.
