Saudi Arabia Destroys 2 Ballistic Missiles, 11 Drones in al-Kharj, Empty Quarter

Official spokesman of the Saudi Defense Ministry Turki al-Malki announced on Monday that the Kingdom’s defenses intercepted and downed two ballistic missiles fired at the Prince Sultan Air Base in al-Kharj, 80 kms southeast of Riyadh.

Defenses also shot down nine drones in the Empty Quarter that were fired at the Shaybah oilfield in the southeast and two others fired at the al-Jawf region in the north.

On Sunday, the Kingdom confirmed that a national from India and another from Bangladesh were killed after a military projectile fell onto a residential area in al-Kharj.

Twelve other Indians and Bangladeshis were wounded, said the civil defense directorate.

It condemned attempts to attack civilian areas, saying they were a flagrant violation of international law.

MWL Condemns Continued Houthi Militia Attacks on Saudi Arabia

The Muslim World League (MWL) strongly condemned the continued aggression by the terrorist Houthi militia against the Kingdom, particularly its targeting of the cities of Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Taif with ballistic missiles and drones, resulting in injuries to civilians and damage to several residential homes and vehicles, SPA reported.

In a statement issued by the General Secretariat, MWL Secretary-General and Chairman of the Organization of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa reiterated his condemnation of these attacks that violate religious values, as well as international and humanitarian laws and norms.

He also reaffirmed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken to deter aggression and safeguard the Kingdom's security, as well as the safety of its citizens and residents.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, departed to Egypt on Tuesday on a working visit at the directive of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, said the Royal Court in a statement.

The Crown Prince will meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to discuss ways to strengthen the fraternal bilateral relations between their countries. They will also discuss issues of mutual interest.

Saudi Arabia strongly condemned on Tuesday the terrorist Houthi militia’s continued “sinful and deliberate” attacks against civilians and civilian areas in the Kingdom.

The Saudi government said the security of the Kingdom and its assets are non-negotiable, underlining its “legitimate right to self-defense and to protect its sovereignty, citizens, residents and vital interests in line with the UN Charter and international law.”

Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, chaired the cabinet meeting that was held in Jeddah.

He briefed the ministers on the telephone call he received from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the meeting he held on Monday with US Central Command Commander Admiral Brad Cooper. The discussions focused on regional developments.

The cabinet reviewed regional and international developments and Saudi Arabia’s efforts to consolidate security and peace through dialogue and supporting cooperation with the international community to confront global challenges.

It reviewed the Kingdom’s participation in the recent BRICS Summit in New Delhi and 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna on Monday.

At the conference, Riyadh said that it has, over decades, established its position as a reliable energy source and an active partner in the stability of global energy markets.

It is also moving forward with building a national mix of various energy sources to be more diversified and sustainable; this includes adding nuclear energy to this mix within a well-established regulatory framework that complies with international obligations.
