The Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi militia towards Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province early on Thursday.

Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense had issued two warnings of potential danger in Najran, in the kingdom’s southwest, and the Eastern Province, before announcing minutes later that the threat had passed in both areas.

Meanwhile, the Houthis’ escalating attacks on villages and residential areas in the provinces of Lahj and Taiz have deepened Yemen’s humanitarian crisis, forcing hundreds of families to flee their homes. The escalation has prompted international warnings of worsening hardship and mounting humanitarian needs in a country where 22.3 million people require aid.

Government sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that the Houthis had stepped up attacks on residential areas using missiles, drones and mortar shells after failing to make progress on the ground, in an apparent bid to put pressure on residents and government forces.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies warned that conditions for displaced people were worsening, with access to humanitarian aid and essential services increasingly difficult. It said about 5.2 million people were internally displaced before the latest escalation, while 2.2 million children under the age of five suffer from acute malnutrition.

Saudi Arabia and Kuwait stressed the need for a firm international stance against terrorist attacks by the Houthi militia and for efforts to restore security and stability in the region.

The call came during talks between Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, in Riyadh on Wednesday.

The two ministers discussed the latest regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions and contain unrest, with the aim of restoring security and stability across the region.

They also reviewed the longstanding fraternal relations between their countries and explored ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields.

According to Kuwait's Foreign Ministry, Sheikh Jarrah reiterated Kuwait's strong condemnation of the terrorist attacks carried out by the Houthi militia against several areas of Saudi Arabia, including attempts to target the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.

He stressed that these attacks constituted a flagrant violation of Saudi sovereignty, a blatant breach of international law and international humanitarian law, and an assault on the sanctity and religious significance of Islamic holy sites, provoking the sentiments of Muslims around the world.

Sheikh Jarrah warned that the continuation and repetition of these systematic hostile acts, including attacks on civilian infrastructure and vital facilities, represented a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the Kingdom's security and regional stability.

He added that the attacks posed serious risks to civilian safety and aviation security, requiring a firm international response to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said the two sides reviewed the deep-rooted historical ties and strong relations between their countries and peoples.

They reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and coordination across all fields and levels, in line with the directives of their leaderships and their aspirations for greater integration and cooperation.

Prince Faisal and Sheikh Jarrah also discussed regional developments and their implications for security and stability, while reaffirming the longstanding historical bonds and close relations between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

The two ministers emphasized the importance of continued Saudi-Kuwaiti consultations and coordination at all levels and of intensifying joint efforts to address current challenges amid the sensitive circumstances facing the region.

They underscored their countries' shared destiny and common interests, as well as their commitment to strengthening the foundations of regional security and stability.

Sheikh Jarrah had arrived in Riyadh earlier for an official visit and was received at King Khalid International Airport by Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji.
