Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah received a phone call from Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt Dr. Badr Abdelatty, SPA reported.

During the call, they discussed the latest developments in the region and efforts to enhance its security and stability.

Kuwait Foils Terrorist Plot Targeting Vital Facility

Kuwait's Ministry of Interior announced Wednesday that it had foiled a terrorist plot targeting a vital facility in the country and arrested a Kuwaiti national affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS before he could carry out the plot, following security monitoring and surveillance operations.

The ministry said in a statement that security investigations revealed that the suspect had received training in the manufacture of explosives and drones and had built a drone for use in carrying out his terrorist plot and targeting a vital facility in the country, SPA reported.

It said security authorities had taken the necessary legal measures against the suspect and referred him to the competent authorities to complete the investigation and take the measures prescribed by law.

The Ministry of Interior affirmed that its security agencies would continue to carry out proactive operations to monitor and counter any activities or plots that could threaten the country's security and stability. It stressed that it "will not tolerate anyone who seeks to undermine national security or the safety of citizens and residents."

The ministry stressed that security agencies would deal firmly with any suspicious activities within the framework of the law, reaffirming their continued efforts to thwart security threats before they develop into acts targeting the country's security and vital facilities.

Oil from a vast slick leaking from the grounded tanker Caroline Bezengi is reported to be reaching Oman's mainland, the UN's shipping agency said on Wednesday.

"Oil is drifting offshore to the northeast of (Oman's) Al-Qibliyyah Island, with some oil reported to be reaching the mainland. Oil spill contingency planning is in place," a spokesperson at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) said, Reuters reported.

The slick off a nature reserve in Oman has created a slick covering almost 400 square kilometres, the country's government said on Monday.

The tanker was carrying around 800,000 barrels of oil from Russia bound for Asia grounded off the coast of Oman on June 30 and is around 22 nautical miles off Oman's fishing village of Sharbithat, the IMO spokesperson said.

"Oil has been leaking from the vessel for some time. The seasonal monsoon has limited access to the vessel and delayed salvage operations," the IMO spokesperson said, adding that the agency was closely monitoring the leak.

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdelatty in the city of El Alamein, Egypt.

During the meeting, they discussed a number of topics of mutual concern and explored ways to strengthen relations between the GCC states and Egypt across various fields, serving desired goals and shared interests.

Both sides reviewed the latest developments regarding the Joint Action Plan between the GCC and Egypt for the period (2024–2028), as well as the outcomes of the inaugural edition of the GCC-Egyptian Investment Forum held recently, SPA reported.

Moreover, the officials also explored several proposals to further bolster GCC-Egyptian ties for the benefit of both peoples.

The two officials underscored the importance of backing all regional and international efforts aimed at cementing security and stability, stressing that all outstanding disputes must be resolved through peaceful and diplomatic means, as well as constructive dialogue among all parties involved.

Albudaiwi reiterated his thanks and appreciation to the Arab Republic of Egypt for its support to the GCC states against Iranian attacks.

The Egyptian minister reaffirmed Egypt's solidarity with the GCC states and its rejection of any aggression against their territories, emphasizing that the security of the GCC states is an integral part of Egyptian national security.
