OIC Condemns Events in Niger

OIC Condemns Events in Niger

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the unfortunate events in Niamey, the capital of the Republic of Niger, affirming its rejection of any actions that could undermine the country’s security and stability.

OIC Secretary-General Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed expressed concern over the events, reaffirming the organization’s efforts to strengthen Niger's security and stability.

The OIC reaffirmed its unwavering support for Niger, expressing its readiness to coordinate with regional and international partners to help de-escalate tensions and promote national reconciliation.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan on Monday discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen and develop them to serve their shared interests, as well as the latest regional developments.

The talks were held in Istanbul on the sidelines of a meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee established under the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement.

The two officials discussed bilateral relations between their countries and ways to promote them. They also discussed the latest regional developments and efforts to bolster security and stability in the region.

Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz arrived in the Turkish city of Istanbul to head the Kingdom’s delegation at the first meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee, established under the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement.

The ministers of defense and foreign affairs, commanders of the armed forces and senior Saudi, Turkish and Pakistani officials are taking part in the meeting to discuss international security and bolstering cooperation and defense integration between their countries.

The meeting is scheduled to discuss developing defense capabilities, boosting operational integration among the armed forces, and cooperating in defense industries, including joint production and research and development, and strengthening joint efforts to combat terrorism.

The meeting will discuss the establishment of a framework for the general secretariat and its associated mechanisms, as well as defining areas of joint work and preparing a roadmap for future steps within the framework of the agreement.

Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan signed the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement in Makkah on August 7, in the presence of Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

UAE Denies Reports of Attack on Al Menhad Air Base

The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Defense denied on Monday media reports claiming that Al Menhad Air Base was targeted by missiles, confirming that such reports are false.  

The Ministry stressed that the Armed Forces remain on a high state of readiness to respond to any threats that may arise to safeguard the UAE’s sovereignty, security and stability.  

The Ministry urged the public to rely on official sources for information and to refrain from spreading rumors or inaccurate information. 

Earlier, the Ministry said the UAE Air Force responded to a drone detected over the country’s territorial waters, approaching from Iran. 

It stressed that the Armed Forces remain on a high state of readiness to address any potential threats, while air defense systems continue to continuously monitor and safeguard the country’s airspace.
