Egypt’s General Prosecution ordered on Sunday the detention of three suspects linked to the assault against former top auditor Hisham Genena.
The MENA news agency said that they are being held on charges of assault, armed robbery and violating public property.
Genena was seriously injured in the face and leg in Saturday's attack outside his suburban Cairo home.
His attorney said that two vehicles intercepted him as he left his house on Saturday. The passengers attacked him with sticks and knives.
Genena was last week named a top campaign aide for former military chief of staff, Sami Anan, who was running for president before his campaign was stopped.
