Arab foreign ministers adopted on Thursday a draft resolution submitted by the State of Palestine, which includes 19 items to confront the US position on Jerusalem, including the establishment of a multilateral international mechanism under the umbrella of the United Nations to sponsor the peace process.
The ministers renewed their rejection of any resolution recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli occupation, and considered the transfer of diplomatic missions to it as a violation to the international law and the resolutions of international legitimacy.
The meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, gathered foreign ministers of 14 countries, in addition to delegations and permanent representatives of Arab countries in the League.
The ministers welcomed the decision of the UN General Assembly last December that measures aimed at changing the character, status or demographic structure of the City of Jerusalem had no legal effect and were null and void.
They also called on all States to refrain from establishing diplomatic missions in the city.
As for the peace process, the ministers underlined the need to work with international actors to establish a multilateral international mechanism under the auspices of the United Nations to sponsor the peace process.
On the other hand, the resolution urged the Palestinian factions and forces to speed up the completion of national reconciliation in accordance with the Cairo Agreement signed in May 2011, and to enable the National Reconciliation Government to assume its full responsibilities in the Gaza Strip and hold the general elections as soon as possible.
The Arab minister also emphasized the rejection of attempts to end the role and mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (UNRWA) through the systematic Israeli campaigns and the reduction of its funding by the US administration.
In this regard, they urged the international community to secure the necessary resources and financial contributions in a sustainable manner to enable the agency to assume its work.
