Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim Jaafari said Sunday they would maintain defense and security cooperation to confront ISIS at the military, security and ideological levels.
During a meeting at the Foreign Ministry in Amman, the two ministers stressed the importance of the progress their countries have made in creating legislative frameworks and the completion of the agreements necessary to enhance trade, economic and investment exchange, and facilitate cross-border movement after the opening of the Trebil crossing, Petra news agency reported.
The ministers asserted that Jordan and Iraq have the firm political will for wider cooperation in all sectors and are willing to overcome all obstacles.
They discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, the Syrian crisis and the war on terrorism, as well as several regional and international issues of common interest.
Safadi said Jordan will contribute with all its resources to the reconstruction process, adding it recognizes the importance of Iraq restoring its full role as a cornerstone for the stability and security of the region, which will serve common Arab and Islamic causes.
Jaafari and an accompanying delegation also met with Prime Minister Hani Mulki, in the presence of Iraqi Ambassador to Jordan Safiya Suhail.
Mulki commended the Iraqi victories achieved in the fight against ISIS and other terrorist networks, praising efforts to strengthen the pillars of security and stability across the country.
He added that Jordan would not spare any effort to support Iraq in its war against terrorism and to restore its national presence and promote its economy. "Iraq is returning to its natural and great status as an active element in the Arab nation,” he said.
