German Town Adopts ‘Fragrance’ as its Motto
The town of Oy-Mittelberg in southwestern Germany hopes to charm tourists by raising the "fragrant village" motto.
Local tourism officials say activities like hiking, swimming and cycling are available in all tourist destinations in the region, but fragrances are a unique feature of Oy-Mittelberg.
The town is saturated with the smell of farms, timber, forests, swamps, meadows and grassy plants.
In addition, there is the smell of coffee emanating from a roasting factory, along with the therapeutic aromas diffusing from a cosmetics company, according to the German news agency.
The town’s hotel owners have also become experts in various scents and an adventurous tour is being offered to discover the different fragrances.
Officials at the Tourism Research Association believe that Oy-Mittelberg has come up with a clever idea because human memories are often triggered by smells.
