The Arab Parliament praised the efforts exerted by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to achieve peace, establish security and stability in the Horn of Africa, host the historic summit between leaders of Ethiopia and Eritrea in Jeddah on September 16, and sign a peace agreement that has ended the state of war and hostility between the two countries after more than 20 years.

In its first session of the second parliamentary term, the Parliament hailed King Salman’s hosting of the historic summit that brought together the leaders of Djibouti and Eritrea in Jeddah in September and the signing of a peace agreement that ended the 10-year differences between the two neighboring countries.

Meanwhile, it stressed that the success of the King’s efforts in bringing peace, ending the state of hostility and rupture, opening a new page of cooperation relations between these two countries, and the great role played by Saudi Arabia in reaching these historic agreements stems from the great position enjoyed by Saudi Arabia.

It said the Kingdom enjoys Arab, regional, and international support and is capable of playing a pivotal role in maintaining peace and security to protect Arab national security and promote stability in the region and the world.

The Parliament also lauded the efforts of Saudi diplomacy to promote cooperation and peace among nations and peoples, consolidate the concepts of tolerance, dialogue and coexistence, and establish relations based on mutual respect, good neighborliness and common interests to realize peoples' aspirations for security, peace, development, progress and prosperity.

Qatar will reopen its embassy in Syria on Tuesday after it was closed for more than 13 years, the Gulf country's foreign ministry said on Sunday, a week after Bashar al-Assad was removed from power.

Qatar's embassy in Damascus has been shut since July 2011 when it withdrew its ambassador from Damascus after a series of deadly crackdowns by Assad's regime on protesters - violence that led to the 13-year-long civil war.

Doha in recent years did not join efforts by several Arab countries to mend relations with Assad's government and re-establish diplomatic relations with Damascus.

A lightning advance by the opposition, led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group led to the ouster of Assad on Dec. 8.

Qatar's foreign ministry said in a statement its decision to reopen the embassy reflects its support for the Syrian people and their "struggle to attain their legitimate rights for a dignified life".
